Insurance & Payment

We're in-network with nearly every plan in Maine

Anthem, UMR/UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Harvard Pilgrim, Martin's Point and MaineCare are all in-network with Portland Treatment. Cigna is the single exception, and we bill it as an out-of-network benefit. Being in-network is not a technicality: it means your care is billed at your plan's contracted rate, your coinsurance is calculated on that lower number, and there is no balance bill for the difference. For most families that is the gap between affordable treatment and a bill they can't pay.

Coverage guides by insurance plan

Each guide covers what that plan typically pays for at our Biddeford program, how authorization works, and what usually determines your out-of-pocket cost.

Don't see your plan? We're also in-network with TRICARE, UnitedHealthcare and other regional carriers. Call 855-449-7674 and we'll confirm your network status in a few minutes.

How verification actually works

Step 1

Share your card

Member ID and date of birth by phone or through our secure form. Nothing more.

Step 2

We call your plan

We get the behavioral health benefit read directly from the payer, in writing.

Step 3

You get real numbers

Deductible remaining, coinsurance, authorization requirements, estimated weekly cost.

Step 4

We handle the rest

Prior authorizations, concurrent reviews and appeals are our job, not yours.

Insurance & payment questions

Are you in-network with my insurance?
Almost certainly. Portland Treatment is contracted in-network with every major payer in Maine we work with, including Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, UMR/UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Harvard Pilgrim (Point32Health), Martin's Point and MaineCare. Cigna is the single exception, we bill Cigna as an out-of-network provider.
Why does in-network matter for what I pay?
In-network means we've agreed to your plan's contracted rate. Your deductible and coinsurance are calculated on that lower negotiated amount, the plan pays a higher percentage, and there's no balance billing. For most people that's the difference between a manageable cost share and thousands of dollars.
What if I have Cigna?
Call us anyway. Cigna is our only out-of-network plan, but many Cigna and Evernorth PPO and Open Access Plus plans still pay a real share of out-of-network outpatient care. We also pursue single-case agreements and network-adequacy exceptions, and we'll give you an honest number before you commit.
How much does treatment cost with insurance?
It depends on your deductible, coinsurance and whether the level of care needs prior authorization. Because we're in-network with nearly every plan, those numbers are based on contracted rates. We give you a written estimate before you start rather than a vague range.
Do you accept MaineCare?
Yes, and we're an enrolled in-network MaineCare provider. MaineCare covers outpatient substance use treatment, intensive outpatient programming and medication-assisted treatment with little or no cost sharing for members.
What if I don't have insurance?
Call us anyway. We can help you check MaineCare eligibility, look at CoverME.gov marketplace options, or discuss self-pay arrangements. We'd rather tell you the truth about cost than lose you to silence.
Will using my benefits be confidential?
Yes. Substance use treatment records carry extra federal protection under 42 CFR Part 2, and employers receive aggregate claims data only, not diagnoses or provider names.
